V700 Audio Modules

The U778 Stereo Peak Limiter is best suited as output limiter and for all other applications where a maximum output level has to precisely limited to a certain value.

The mono version of this Limiter is the U777.

Two other stereo limiter versions are also available:

The stereo mastering limiter U778b offers some additional features and the stereo mastering peak limiter with delay line U795 adds an analog delay line for operation free from any overshoots as well as dynamic release time modulation to achieve higher gain reduction, free from pumping and distortion.

The U778 is probably the fastest, most accurate limiter you will ever use.

The module has either electronically balanced or transformer balanced inputs and outputs. All inputs and outputs can process levels up to +30dBu in the frequency range. The look-ahead regulation circuit of the device is VCA controlled for fast, linear operation. A symmetric circuit is used for the entire audio chain and the internal Headroom from input to output is +30dBu. The device is controlled by the stereo channel with the higher momentary level.

The U778 is implemented as a look-ahead Limiter with an AC-DC converter as a fast, peak value detector. These limiters are fast reacting, precise and will regulate a 20 kHz sine wave signal down to the threshold level within the first period.
