Part of the Processing Section of the IO5-D/e are the insert section the filter section. The switched channel insert is fully buffered. It can be switched pre or post the EQ section and to the record chain. The hi-pass and low-pass filters operate independent of the equalizers. Both filters have very wide sweep ranges. The filters can be switched to the record chain independently.

Filters

The Filters Section of the IO5-D/e Inline Channel is an independent element that is not connected with the equalizers. Both the low-pass filter and the high-pass filter are 'maximum flat' type filters. These filters offer the best compromize between possible frequency and phase response. Both filters stages have 12 dB/oct steep rate. The sweep range of the high-pass filter is from OFF, which means below 20 Hz, to 600 Hz. The sweep range of the low-pass filter ranges from OFF (more than 20 kHz) to 1 kHz. The scaling of the pots is widened in the mostly used frequency range between 40 and 150 Hz for the high pass and between Off and 7 kHz for the low pass filter. The unit is bypassed by default and inserted by the FILT switch.

Insert Section

There is one fully buffered inline section that can be routed by two switches to the four most importan points of the module. The default position is post EQ, pre fader, in the tape chain. The PRE switch routs the insert post filters, pre EQ's, while the REC switch moves the section to the record chain. The pre switch works in the same way in the tape chain and the record chain.

The entire insert section operates at 0 dB level. The output can drive 600 ohm loads. The output is always available on the insert output jack on the patch bay. The insert input is half normalized with the output. The INS switch activates the insert input.

Though there is only one insert, it is possible to use the half normalized break jacks of the tape input, the line input and the multitrack input to insert additional equiment on the patch bay. All these inputs and outputs operate on the same, 0 dB, line level.
